Steve Moore, aka Stebmo, is a multi-instrumentalist hailing from Seattle, WA. Known as a pianist, with a love for wurlitzers, casiotones and bells, he is also a trombonist and composer. His resume reads like a cult top-10 list with artists as diverse as songwriter Sufjan Stevens, jazz hero Bill Frisell and black metal mavericks sunnO))).
Moore's formative years were spent playing jazz and free improvisation in the pacific northwest and briefly in New York City. A rich scene, it allowed collaboration and study with some of jazz's modern masters including Julian Priester, Steve Turre, Robin Holcomb and Wayne Horvitz. Eventually, he met and recorded with producer Tucker Martine in 1997 -- this meeting had a profound impact on the direction of Moore's music and career. Together they have collaborated in the ambient collective Mount Analog and on dozens of albums ranging from the far-left twang of Jim White to classic Seattle rockers Mudhoney.
Moore's cool conglomeration combines the tunefulness
of progressive rock with some jazzy grooves. Songs float along sweetened
by their melodies. "Blind Ross" cooks with funky fervor, while "Majika"
proves to be a sweet, mesmerizing ditty and "Work" is full of spirited
doodling. The jazzy rock makes for something of a bastard genre, but it's a
happy confluence, much like the birth of jazz itself. - Karl Stark, Philadelphia Inquirer

100% Shea Vineyard Pinot Noir |
|
|
|
Stebmo's introspective audio works parallel the sophistication found in the 2006 Shea Vineyard Pinot Noir. His textural approach is whimsically drawn from the numerous instruments that sweep in and out of focus, as notes of blackberry, anise and clove concoct a flavor profile for the wine that becomes increasingly evident with each new inviting sip. The end result is not surprising for either, as Stebmo's band has tight support by renowned session drummer Matt Chamberlain (Tori Amos, Wallflowers, Marco Benevento) and Matt Sickafoose on bass (Ani DiFranco, Blood Orange), whereas Shea Vineyard has the distinction of being one of only five U.S. vineyards meriting the designation "Grand Cru" from Wine Enthusiast. The music and wine are profoundly similar in that they are fully realized with age. |
